JESSICA BOURASSA, PEER SPECIALIST

Hey my name is Jess. I am a person in recovery, who has entered over a decade of sobriety. I live with mental health challenges but I do not let them define who I am as a person. I take my experiences in life and apply them to the support I  offer individuals who come to the Love of T.

I was introduced to the peer world when I was assigned a family partner soon before I began my recovery journey. She saw something in me I didn't yet see in myself. She applied her lived experience to helping me realize my inherent strengths. My peer centered experience was further strengthened when I joined a local Peer Center in Berkshire County. I walked in as a participant seeking support and walked out confident that I wanted to become a Peer Support Worker myself. Following that experience, I worked at The Brien Center for 6 years as a Certified Peer Specialist. I was able to support community members through their personal struggles. I was a keynote speaker at The Out of the Darkness walk and spoke at seminars about the importance of person-centered care in a clinical setting.

I spend a lot of time with my children outdoors, hiking and creating art out of natural elements. I am currently developing a Community Garden in Adams with the hopes of making it a hub for the underserved population in my community. It is a legacy project that is mostly built as a metaphor for my mental health struggles and how planting seeds and pulling weeds is quite like my mental health journey. I get to step back and see how lush and happy my garden is and how it is a reflection of my mind, body and spirit.
